3D LASER SCANNING - DOWNSTREAM OUTPUTS

INTELLIGENT P&ID'S

Once a 3D digital pipework model is created from the point  cloud it can be further processed. Existing P&ID' s can be checked for accuracy against the 3D pipe model { whose accuracy is guaranteed from the point cloud}. New 'intelligent' P&ID's can be created from the 3D pipe model.  The intelligent P&ID is liked to a database which allows automatic verification of the P&ID to the 3D pipework model at any time {and visa versa}. Multiple reports can be generated on line and component information.

NEW PIPEWORK ISOGENs

The 3D pipe work model can be altered and modified as new equipment is added or new routes need to be created. With the pipe model it is easy to add new routes or fittings. Clash detection of new routes is also easy in combination with the point cloud. Once the new routes have been designed it is possible to automatically generate ISO pipework manufacturing drawings. These ISO drawings contain all the information to manufacture the new pipework spools including all dimensions and material specifications. Using this workflow 'on site' measurement/design and manufacture is reduced to a minimum, with the subsequent reduction of on site contractors, improved health and safety and product contamination issues.

TRAINING / PLANT INVESTIGATION

A Photographic quality 3D point cloud model can be used for a variety on site uses. Classroom training or meetings can be enhanced when a 3D model is available for inspection. New equipment can be visualised prior to installation. It is also possible to use the point cloud 'on site' to view routes or equipment behind a wall or in the next room. Although there is no substitute for visiting the shop floor when necessary, this technology reduces the need for personnel visits to hygienic or dangerous areas.

REVERSE ENGINEERING

It is possible to produce a manufacturing quality 3D model from the point cloud. This means that a component can be replicated exactly even when no dimensional documentation or drawing exists. This is useful when components have become obsolete or if the delivery time of OEM spare part is unacceptable. Significant savings can be made in time and cost by having the component manufactured locally.
